CHARACTER INFORMATION

Name: Flynn Scifo
Age: 21
Subject taught: Cooking.
Canon: Tales of Vesperia
Canon point: Post-game

Personality:
Flynn at first glance is that one Lawful Good guy your entire D&D party despises. And on second glance, you have exactly the same impression and kind of regret it because he seems like a nice guy behind all that arresting you. Believing fully in the law and the good inherent in people, he works within a corrupt system to improve the lives of everyone governed by it. Of course, it took him their entire game to gain enough influence that he wasn't simply biting his tongue every time someone who outranked him did something cruel or outrageous, but the fact that he did bite his tongue says a lot about his character. He prefers to aim for the large problems, rather than the little ones, and will accede a minor conflict with a greater issue in mind. He's patient, willing to stick to an unpleasant, long-term path in order to solve his problems. He's methodical, thoughtful, and polite; his personality is essentially that of the noble young knight from the fairytales and his looks further reinforce that impression.

Coming from the point he does, Flynn has risen through the ranks to become the Commandant of the Imperial Knights. Having finally achieved his goal of reaching a position in which he can change lives for the better, he has relaxed somewhat. However, the responsibilities on his shoulders have also risen exponentially, and so he is busier - and often more serious - than ever. If he can, he spends time with friends or involved in leisure activities, but he has to be dragged away from responsibility and forced into goofing off. This isn't really a Commandant thing, it's more just a Flynn thing. Overly serious nearly all of the time, and all. His politeness combines with this serious nature to make him seem reserved to strangers, and a workaholic to his friends.

His politeness extends to all things - even during a match or a battle, he will be careful of what he says, and considerate of those around him regardless of their affiliation or whether they're holding a sword to his throat. His temper has improved from when he was a recruit; having been somewhat more volatile back then, he has matured in the sense that he can rein back most impulsive reactions now. The exception is and will always be Yuri Lowell, who has a five-star ranking in needling Flynn. In fact, Yuri is essentially the only person Flynn allows himself to show real frustration around, other than Estelle, and having grown up with him in and out of fights, he can slip very easily into a pattern of immature bickering or trash-talk that would make anyone who wasn't aware of their friendship and past history blink. With other friends he relaxes, but never quite so much as with his best friend. There will always be an edge of the Knight Commandant around others.

In battle, he's a determined and fiery fighter. His patience translates into stubbornness on the battlefield; he often refuses to admit defeat even against overwhelming odds. This trait can sometimes seem like it would tip into martyrdom if given the right push, but thanks to his subordinates and his friends it's never had the chance to. He is immensely protective of those around him, no matter their affiliation, and being prevented from helping someone is a huge frustration to him no matter the situation. If someone refuses help, he can grow agitated or upset, and insist on helping unless such insistence would worsen the situation.

Sample:
Flynn wasn't really one for arguing terminology with mages, but this time he was going to have to make an exception. He stared blankly down at the ... creature? in his hands. It stared back. It made a noise that was halfway between a miaow and an atonal hum. Its fur felt rough even against his gloves. The silence stretched.

"It's a cat," Witcher supplied, ever helpful. If he tried, Flynn could tell the mage was trying not to be impatient with his Commandant's ignorance. His carefully-suppressed smile faded naturally the very next second, as the cat squirmed.

"Ah..." He adjusted his grip, accidentally petted the 'cat's head, and its eyes flickered in time with a sudden, loud purr that filled the office. He tried valiantly to keep any trace of doubt from his voice as he asked, "How exactly does it work?"

"You speak into it, and the other cat in the pair repeats what you said back. There's a certain formula for nature spirits that--"

The cat sneezed. Flynn jumped. Was that normal? Cats sneezed. Cats that were also long-range formula-controlled communication devices, though? He hadn't a clue. And while he had been worrying, Witcher had been talking. He hurriedly paid attention again, and caught the end of what must have been a detailed and helpful summary of the new invention-slash-fuzzy animal he had been handed five minutes ago.

It was eventually scrapped as a failed prototype when it was proven that ingesting milk rendered the formula unusable. Flynn gracefully accepted the set, faulty as they were, and Estelle got the matching cat a few days later.
